Travel information:
International flights South African Airways, Ethiopian Airways and Kenya Airways fly into Blantyre and Lilongwe. Smaller charter flights can also be arranged for the more remote destinations!  We can take care of all your flight arrangements as well as arrange meet and greet services at all destinations and transfers to and from your bush camps and lodges.
Getting to the camps & lodges is done by road transfer from Lilongwe or Blantyre.

Tourist Visas:
We stay abreast of the latest requirements with the Malawian Embassy or High Commission.  Please do check with Department of Immigration Malawi if you need to apply for your visa in advise or can acquire it on arrival https://www.immigration.gov.mw/visa/countries-whose-nationals-need-visa-when-coming-to-malawi/.
All travellers must be in possession of a valid passport when entering and leaving the country. When applying for the visa you will need to submit an invitation letter which we are happy to assist with! We would need the following information for the letter: • Name of Traveller • Date of Birth • Passport Number • Date of issue • Date of expiry • Nationality Currently the visa fees available at the ports of entry are as follows:
Single entry (valid for 3 months) – US$50
Multiple entry (valid for 6 months) – US$150
Online visa service: applicants can register and login on the e-visa platform, fill and submit and applications, upload supporting documents including applicants’ photo and pay the visa fees in advance in line with new payment arrangements.
To apply for an e-visa, register and login to the Immigration website: www.immigration.gov.mw or www.evisa.gov.mw.

Airport Tax:
Most airlines now include airport taxes in the tickets. But for charter flights these may still be payable, these will be communicated at the time of booking by our reservations team.

Travel Health Requirements:
Please do ask for up to date health advice in your home country.   It’s also a good idea to contact your nearest Travel Clinic to confirm the latest requirements at least 1 month before travelling to make sure you haven’t missed anything!  There may be some recommended vaccines, but certainly not compulsory!   (i.e. Tetanus, typhoid and the hepatitis.).  Please check for Yellow Fever Vaccine requirements, depending from which country you are travelling from.
All visitors should be medically insured. We recommend that visitors to Malawi take malaria prophylactics. It is advisable to know your blood group type in case of an emergency.

Insurance:
It’s compulsory to arrange medical and travel insurance for while you’re travelling.  We highly recommend that every guest has insurance that covers the following as a minimum: Cancellation and curtailment.
Medical costs (including full hospital costs should it be needed)
Personal accident or death
Emergency evacuation from the point of evacuation to the nearest best hospital and then back to the guest’s hometown.
Make sure to thoroughly investigate all options available to you.  We are able to make recommendations of reputable insurance companies.    We cannot emphasize how important it is to be fully covered. Private hospitals (few and far between) in Africa will not accept a patient until full medical insurance has been established.

Wi-Fi coverage:
In our opinion, the only way to truly unwind, unplug and escape from the pressures of the outside world as we know it, is to enjoy the serenity and tranquillity of nature with no Wi-Fi access!  Sadly, due to pressure to compete with other safari lodges, some of our camps have relented and now have access to Wi-Fi.  When booking, we can confirm which camps have Wi-Fi.  Depending on your location and camp, Wi-Fi may be very limited or not available at all!  Please be aware that use of devices should be limited to your chalet/tent and if used in public areas, to be considerate of others enjoying a technology-free safari.

Children Policy:
We can accommodate children of all ages at all our Lodges & Bush Camps in Malawi.
Mkulumadzi Lodge (Majete Wildlife Reserve) – all ages welcome.
Kuthengo Camp (Liwonde National Park) – all ages welcome.
Pumulani Lodge (Lake Malawi) – all ages welcome.

Activities:
Game drives, boating safaris, walking safaris and hiking including water sports at Lake Malawi.

Meals & Drinks:
The rate is inclusive of all local drinks & meals. We also offer a connoisseurs’ wine & spirits list at an extra cost.

Nut Allergies:
While our kitchens are fully capable of catering for most dietary requests, we regrettably are unable to cater for people with severe nut allergies as we cannot guarantee a completely nut free environment.

Electricity & Water:
In most cases our camps are run on solar power with a backup generator for cloudy days. Tap water is from a borehole and is safe for drinking; bottled water is also provided at the camp free of charge. Three pin square plugs. (British)

Payment for extras:
All extras can be paid in cash (local currency, US$, Euro or British Pounds) only. US dollar bills – we only accept the new notes with large heads as any with small heads are not accepted in Malawi.

Tipping:
Is not expected but always enthusiastically received if you are happy with the service. Please always give tips for the staff to the management to be shared out and please tip your guide individually. (Gratuity envelopes are available in the rooms, kindly make use of them.)

Photography:
Please be sensitive when photographing local people and their villages. Ask the guide or the villagers first. Be careful when photographing public buildings and persons in uniform – again, ask first.

Travelling alone – A safari holiday with us is a perfect way to travel alone.  Why?
You will constantly feel supported and taken care of!  From being met at the airport to being hosted at one of our bush camps, our hosts and hostesses and small groups of guests contribute in making you feel, relaxed welcome and at home!
Our safari lodges and bush camps are exclusive and only host a maximum of 10 to 12 guests at one time.

All meals unless requested otherwise are enjoyed together and interaction with each other is a wonderful part of the experience.  You will make life-long connections with other people from all over the globe!

We have hosted many single and/or elderly safari travellers in the Bush who book every year, feeling safe, cared for and enjoying the entire experience!

What to bring:

You should always travel with soft bags not hard suitcases (not only for the smaller aircraft but also to fit into vehicles).

Important items to bring along:

Sunscreen (High SPF)
Good, comfortable, closed walking shoes
Natural-coloured, safari-style clothing that can be layered – nothing bright!
All charging cables and adaptors for devices, binoculars and photographic equipment.
Medication you may have been prescribed including prophylactics for Malaria prevention.
Depending on which time of the year you visit, a warm jacket and some gloves, you may need waterproofs, and a warm jacket. The dry months are from April till October and the wet months November till March. (Poncho’s and blankets are provided on the game drive vehicles.)
Temperatures range throughout the year from between 11-40 c.
