Luangwa Safari House, situated in South Luangwa National Park, Zambia is an extraordinary castles-like house giving you space, luxury and comfort with nature on your doorstep. Designed by Neil Rocher, this amazing house sleeps up to eight guests in four spacious en-suite bedrooms, each uniquely decorated, with a huge dining/lounging area. Built on private land near Nkwali, with views of the Chindeni Hills, it is a rare chance to enjoy the luxury of an extraordinary home in a true African wilderness.

The House Accommodation:
Private safari house – exclusive use. Four bedrooms (double or twin). Maximum eight guests.
Facilities:
En-suite bathrooms with double basins and showers. The ‘copper’ room has a bath too.
There is also a viewing hide on site as well as a plunge pool. Telephone reception and limited WIFI during certain hours.
Activities:
As the house is exclusive use, safari activities are operated on a private basis.
Walking Safaris – led by trained Robin Pope Safaris guide and an armed National Parks scout.
Game drives (day and night) – operated in open game viewing vehicles. Blankets are supplied during chilly periods. Ponchos are supplied also during the wet months.
Cultural/village tour – this can be arranged whilst in camp and a school visit is also possible seasonally.
Visit local market – arranged during stay in camp.
Tribal Textiles – locally made home décor company, giving an opportunity to see how everything is designed and made; plus opportunity to purchase souvenirs.
Meals & Drinks:
Rate is fully inclusive of all meals and drinks.
Nut Allergies:
While our kitchen is fully capable of catering for most dietary requests, we regrettably are unable to cater for people with severe nut allergies as we cannot guarantee a completely nut free environment.
Electricity & Water:
The house runs off mains electricity. Three pin square plugs (adaptors available). Tap water is from a borehole and is safe for drinking; bottled water is also provided at the house free of charge.
Children’s Policy:
Minimum age for children is 7 years.
Younger children may be taken on an exclusive use of camp basis, by prior arrangement.
Payment for extras:
All extras can be paid in cash (local currency, US$, Euro or British Pounds) only. US dollar bills – we only accept the new notes with large heads as any with small heads are not accepted in Zambia.
Tipping:
It is not expected but always enthusiastically received if you are happy with the service.
Please always give tips for the staff to the management to be shared out and kindly tip your guide individually. (Gratuity envelopes are available in the rooms, kindly make use of them.)
Travel information:
International flights South African Airways, Kenya Airways and Emirates fly into Lusaka, Zambia. South African Airways, Kenya Airways and Ethiopian Airways fly into Lilongwe, Malawi.
Getting to Mfuwe:
1 hour 30 minutes flight with Proflight from Lusaka, Zambia.
From Lilongwe:
Malawi it is a 1-hour flight. Getting to the safari house. From Mfuwe Airport it is a 40-minute road transfer to the house through colourful village life and some game viewing area as well.
Getting into the Park:
Throughout the year we have direct access from Nkwali camp (5-minute drive from Luangwa Safari House) to the park by boat or vehicle. During the dry months we operate a pontoon into the more southern part of the park. When the river is at its lowest, we can drive directly across the river from Nkwali. Meet and greet In Lusaka, Lilongwe you will be met by an RPS representative who will assist you with boarding your connecting flight.
Visas:
The following countries do not need a visa when entering Zambia: United Kingdom, United States of America, European Union, Canada, Norway, Australia, China, Japan, South Korea & The Gulf States Other nationals can obtain their visa at the point of entry into Zambia. Current charges are $25 for the visa If you are not exempt from a visa then please ask about visas before booking. Airport Tax:
Most airlines now include airport taxes in the tickets. But for charter flights these may still be payable, these will be communicated at the time of booking by our reservations team.
Health:
All visitors should be medically insured. We recommend that visitors to Zambia take malaria prophylactics. Tetanus, polio, typhoid and the hepatitis vaccinations are recommended. It is advisable to know your blood group type in case of an emergency. Please do ask for up to date health advice in your home country.
Insurance:
We ask that full insurance is put in place at point of confirmation. We highly recommend that every guest has insurance that covers the following as a minimum: Cancellation and curtailment Medical costs (including full hospital costs should it be needed) Personal accident or death, Emergency evacuation from the point of evacuation to the nearest best hospital and then back to the guest’s hometown. Family or travelling partner should also be covered for accompanying an evacuation. We cannot emphasize how important it is to be fully covered. Private hospitals in Africa will not accept a patient until full medical insurance has been established.

Photography:
Please be sensitive when photographing local people and their villages. Ask the guide or the villagers first. Be careful when photographing public buildings and persons in uniform – again, ask first.
What to bring:
You should always travel with soft bags not hard suitcases (not only for the smaller aircraft but also to fit into vehicles). Important items to bring along: Sunscreen, hat, good closed walking shoes, natural-coloured, safari-style clothing that can be layered – nothing bright, all charging cables and adaptors, binoculars, camera, medication you may have been prescribed including prophylactics. Depending on which time of the year you visit, a warm jacket and some gloves. Climate Depending on which time of year you visit, you may need waterproofs, a warm jacket or sunscreen. The dry months are from April till October and the wet months November till March. Temperatures range throughout the year from between 11-40 C.
