The Island Resort supplies ample water and electricity for guests. (Fully off the grid with a large solar powered system.) They are committed to environmental protection and sustainability with a focus on preserving the Island’s fauna and flora. The lodge supplies an excellent quality of drinking water to their guests.

Payment for extras:
All extras can be paid in cash (Seychelles Rupees, US$, Euro or British Pounds). It’s advisable to have Seychelles Rupees (local currency) in smaller denominations for smaller purchases and tips. Only Mastercard and Visa cards are accepted.


Tipping:

It is not expected but always enthusiastically received if you are happy with the service.
Please always give tips for the staff to the management or reception to be shared out and kindly tip your guide individually. (Gratuity envelopes are available in the rooms. Guideline for tipping:
General Hotel Staff – between USD15.00 – USD50.00 per day.
For Fly-fishing Guides – USD110.00 per day.
Diving Staff – USD25.00 per dive.

Travel information:
International flight operators flying to the main island of the Seychelles – Mahe are:
South African Airways, Kenya Airways, Emirates, Qatar Airways and Air Seychelles. Owl Safaris will always offer the best rates on offer.
The average flight time from Johannesburg, South Africa to Mahe is 4 hours and 55 mins.

Once in Mahe, it’s advisable to overnight in Mahe before boarding the charter flight from the IDC Hanger to Alphonse Island. we have great options for accommodation. light from IDH Hanger (Mahe) to Alphonse Island is approximately 1 hour. (400km) Aeroplanes used are typically small turboprops or piston planes.

Visas:
All visitors must obtain an online Travel Authorization before their trip to Seychelles. Seychelles is a visa-free destination.

Airport Tax:
Most airlines now include airport taxes in the tickets. But for charter flights these may still be payable, these will be communicated at the time of booking.

 

Health:
All visitors should be medically insured. It is advisable to know your blood group type in case of an emergency. If you are travelling from a Yellow Fever endemic area, a valid Yellow Fever vaccination certificate will be required. Please do ask for up to date health advice at your local travel clinic in your home country.
Seychelles is a malaria free destination.
It is recommended to pack the necessary ointment/medication in case of painful stings resulting from encounters with sea creatures like Sting Rays and Jelly Fish.  (Infrequent cases reported.)
The beach lodge has first aid kits close at hand and personnel available to deal with any minor medical occurrence.

Insurance:
We ask that full insurance is put in place at point of confirmation. We highly recommend that every guest has insurance that covers the following as a minimum: Cancellation and curtailment, Medical costs (including full hospital costs should it be needed) Personal accident or death, Emergency evacuation from the point of evacuation to the nearest best hospital and then back to the guest’s hometown. Family or travelling partner should also be covered for going with an evacuation. We cannot emphasize how important it is to be fully covered. What to bring:
You should always travel with soft bags not hard suitcases (not only for the smaller plane but also to fit into vehicles).
Important items to bring along:
Sunscreen, hat, buff, swimwear, good water shoes, natural-coloured, light beach wear. (Warm tropical climate) Small beach bag or back pack, Insect repellent, small first aid kit.
Bring a light rain jacket/poncho for the occasional showers
Evening wear – While the dress code at the beach lodge is generally very casual, pack just one or two smart-casual items for evenings at the resort.
Charging cables and adaptors, binoculars, camera, medication you may have been prescribed.
Remember to always carry an original copy of a script when travelling with scheduled medications.

The wettest months with higher humidity are January and February. November through to March have more rainfall but still very pleasant if you don’t mind light tropical showers. From March/April temperature rise with lovely calmer weather. April and May are the hottest months on the Island.
Temperatures range throughout the year from between 24 to 32 C and night-time temperatures rarely drop to below 20 C.
